The Chicago Film Archive of Performance (C-FAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in August of 2013 by Drew Blau, a Chicago-based film coordinator, MapMaker, and theatrical entrepreneur.

Housed at the Chicago Public Library’s Harold Washington Library Center, CFAP is committed to establish, maintain, and develop filmed recordings of live theatre and dance, interviews/dialogues with notable theatrical figures, and theatre award ceremonies.  With a goal of documentation and preservation, archived films provide an educational and artistic resource for the Chicago community and theatrical history.

Recognized as one of America’s premier cities for regional theatre, Chicago holds the distinction of housing the most companies to have received the Regional Theatre Tony Award.  Additionally, the League of Chicago Theatres serves over two hundred member theatres featuring emerging storefront theatres, midsize established troupes, and large institutions.

Productions are chosen for their cultural, historical, aesthetic, and educational value.  Premiers, unique events, community interest, and contributions of particular value by performers, directors, and/or designers are given special consideration in selecting productions to archive.  The Executive Director makes the final selection based on suggestions from the Board of Directors and recommendations of the Joseph Jefferson Committee, the judging body of Chicago’s Joseph Jefferson Awards.
